Informal groups and non-profit organizations can now use the domain “ong.br” to register their websites. This option is provided by the NIC.br and is open for registration until August 27 at 3 pm.
The introduction of this domain category benefits the NGO sector by allowing easier registration without as many restrictions. The “ong.br” domain, classified as generic, does not mandate the holder to be a legal entity like the “org.br” domain does. This means that any entity sharing a connection with this suffix can register their domain, whether it’s a community, organization, group, or even an individual with a cause.
The NIC.br introduced the “ong.br” domain for non-profit organizations, along with regulations to safeguard owners of the existing “org.br” domains. Only holders of “org.br” domains are permitted to register in the “ong.br” extension, aiming to prevent identical domains with different owners.
“If an association owns the ‘our group.org.br’ domain, only the owner can register ‘our group.ong.br’ if desired. This restriction helps maintain the distinct identity of non-profit associations with ‘org.br’ domains, making it a trusted space on the Internet.”
The “org.br” extension is commonly used by non-profit non-governmental organizations but has restrictions for registration. In contrast, the “.org” extension is more versatile and can be used by various types of organizations.
Domains ending in “ong.br” can be registered through the Registry.br entity, which manages domain registrations ending in .br, priced at R $ 40 annually. Alternatively, other domain registration companies offer varying costs for this service.
A Registry differential is the option to easily redirect the domain to any social network or external URL at no cost.
