How to move a country-specific domain (.br)

In this guide, we will learn how to move the registration of all your country-specific domains. If you wish to transfer just a few domains, refer to the Registry assistance page mentioned earlier.

The procedures outlined here can be utilized to transfer national domains from the Registry.br to a different company, from a different company to the Registry.br, or even between different companies.

The transfer is facilitated by the Registry site in these instances because it is accountable for registering and managing all national domains.

Here are the necessary steps to effectively transfer a national domain (.br):

1. Please log in to the Registry.br site. If your domain is not registered there, you must register by creating an account on the website. Use the same document (CPF or CNPJ) that you used to register with the domain registrar.
2. Click on the “TITULARITY” box and then select “EDIT INFORMATION” when you log into your account.
3. Search for “Serve SERVICES” and select “Choose a different provider”.
4. Choose the company to transfer your domain to and click “SAVE”. If transferring to Registry.br from another company, select “NONE”. Note that saving will transfer registration for all your domains. If moving your domain from a company to Registry.br, the process is complete. An email confirming the change will be sent by the entity. If transferring your domain to a company, proceed to the final step.
5. Fill out the form provided by the company to transfer your domain. This final step is handled outside of Registry.br. Most companies have a form for the transfer process, available on their website or by requesting assistance. Once you complete the form, the company will contact you to finalize the transfer process.

How to move a domain from one country to another

If your domain is global, there should be no significant issues in transferring it. Two examples will be provided to help clarify each step. Let’s proceed to the important information.

Unlock your domain name.

The process to unlock the domain differs depending on the company. When you access the company’s control panel, find your registered domains and locate the unlock option, which may be represented as a lock or labeled as “edit settings”.

To clarify, we provide two examples.

UOL Host is an example.

When you access the customer panel on UOL Host, go to the “Domains” section, find the domain you want to transfer in the domain list, and select the menu in the “Manage” column. Finally, click on “Change contact information” as indicated.

A new webpage will open to modify the contact information for the chosen domain. Click on “change” next to the registrar to unlock it. The following image illustrates the process.

SuperDomains Example

Log in to the SuperDomains website, go to the control panel, navigate to the “Domains” section on the homepage or “My Domains” in the menu, and select the button for domain settings.

Click on “register log” on the left side, followed by selecting “Disable Log Block” as shown in the image.

The transfer of global domains requires the involvement of four parties: the domain owner, the original registering company, the current hosting company, and ICANN, the governing body for internet domain registrations.

You will be required to verify and approve the domain transfer by following the instructions provided in an email sent to the registered email address. Once you click on the link in the email, you will be directed to a page to confirm the transfer, and upon acceptance, a confirmation screen will appear.

The entire process typically lasts between 4 and 30 days, but it is often finished within approximately 10 days, as reported by domain registration firms.
